After seemingly dropping off the face of the earth around 1991, Jake E. Lee is back for the attack with his new band Red Dragon Cartel. One of hard rock’s most talented guitar slingers brings it with his new S/T album, featuring a few guest musicians and plenty of his trademark guitar slaying. Upon first listen, the album struck me as a late 80s/early 90s hard rock sound with a modern flair, which is a breath of fresh air in a world where every hard rock and metal band is seemingly hell bent on being the most heavy band possible. This album actually has dynamics! The guitars actually have tone! I hope they put this out on vinyl at some point in the future, because it would sound phenomenal. Aside from having a solid band, Jake’s brought in some real talent to throwdown on this album: Rex Brown from Pantera, Robin Zander from Cheap Trick, Maria Bring from In This Moment, and a living legend, the true Iron Maiden singer Paul fucking Di’Anno! The music is definitely solid, but being a guitar player myself, I’m shamelessly biased toward the guitar playing. I mean, come on, it’s Jake E. Lee. FUGETABOUTIT! So, if you’re in the market for some killer, ballsy hard rock, go grab yourself a copy of this and prepare to have your ass kicked once again by a true guitar god.
