You know we have been highlighting DJ Whatt’s work under DOSVEC for a while now. He recently finished up Glimpses, his latest un-mixed mashup album. We asked him a few words on himself and the release. Peep game.

How long have you been doing the mashup thing?
Have always created mashups for my own personal use but as DOSVEC since 2009.

What gear are you using now and how have your processes changed, if any, from when you first started and were first learning how to create mashups.
I am loyal to Acid as the sequencer & Sound Forge to edit & master the tunes – over a decade with the same always just upgrade.

Whats your favorite non-mashup style music right now and do you incorporate that style into your music?
I really enjoy some silky smooth jazz with a red wine glass filled with SCOTCH.

What can I expect at a Dosvec/DJ Whatt show? Do you play all mashups when you DJ? And if you are they all your own mashups?
A DOSVEC show consists of all DOSVEC Mashups but the great thing is since i have the mastered files i create live mashups that will only be heard that night

How long have you been working on your latest full length release, Glimpses?
Glimpses took me 5months to create & the story behind it is a true on.

Favorite pair of sneakers?

We’re also going to have DJ EV in the building, the homey from Cleveland. DJ Zeek will be rocking the house, he’s from Bloomington as well as the one and only DJ C from my neck of the woods! Probcause will also be opening so talk about a night full of tunes. Should be the wildest party in the area this spring so we’d hate for you to miss it. If you haven’t heard the sad news, DJ Bonics (Wiz Khalifa’s DJ from Pittsburgh), recently had a heart attack. In an effort to raise awareness about heart disease he has been quite open about the tragic event. I urge all of you to head over to his blog and read about the incident now. It was sort of crazy being in Pittsburgh as the news was spreading, however I was truly able to get a feel for how much the community respects him as a DJ and loves him as a person. If you’re feeling generous this holiday season, any donation is greatly appreciated (see the links below). Of course I also urge anyone in the Pittsburgh area to attend the benefit for him at S Bar.

As you may or may not have heard, last week Bonics had a heart attack. He’s going to be facing some pretty big medical bills so we’re having a fundraiser for him at S Bar on Wednesday December 22nd from 7-11. There will be DJ’s and surprises and who knows what so plan to attend.

Thanks it feels great. I honestly wasn’t expecting it. It’s really nice to have had such a positive response to my remix from everyone I’ve played it to so yeah… I’m chuffed.

What do you think of ‘The Way’?

I think it’s a big feel good summer tune, and it’s certainly mighty catchy. I’m looking forward to hearing what else PURPL PoP have in store.

For those that don’t know you yet please tell us a little about Shooting Horses…

My name’s Rob Swaine, I’m from South West London, the area with the low crime rate, and I make house music. I took my name from the 1930’s American crime fiction novel, ‘They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?’, and you can rest assured that I don’t physically shoot horses. Or do I..? I don’t.

What is you current production set up?

Very basic: Just me, in my bedroom with my Macbook and a copy of Logic. The glue to the setup is my pair of Genelec 8030As, my pride and joy. I’d only be half the man I am today without them.

How long have you been making dance music? What inspired you to start?

I’ve been making electronic music in various forms for the last 6 years, since the end of sixth form. I was the drummer in several bands at the time and used to do drum and bass remixes of our studio recordings. They weren’t very good but I had fun doing it. It was only when I got to Nottingham and started DJing that I got into house music. It seemed the logical step to have a go at making some beats of my own and now after a year of concentrated production, I feel I’m finally getting somewhere with it.

What is next for Shooting Horses?

I’ve got a few gigs coming up in London and Nottingham so I’m looking forward to DJing again. And of course, loads more production. I’ve done a fair few remixes lately so I’m going to spend a bit of time on some originals and hone in on my own sound. I’d love to have an E.P. of my own out by the end of the year / early next year and maybe play some festivals next summer. So yeah… I’ve got ambitious plans but everyone needs a challenge eh.

Thank you Secret Fun Blog for this one. They put together the list of the best card backs from 80′s toys. If you’re an eighties baby you will love this. First time I have read the blog, but bam-home run. I think I recognize all but about 5 or 6 of these. Some real obscure stuff on here. Nightmare Warriors? Don’t remember those dudes. My personal favorite, GI Joe. That was the one toy line it seemed I couldn’t get enough of.
